Why Dermal Fillers Aftercare is Important
Dermal fillers, also known as hyaluronic acid fillers, soft-tissue augmentation, and soft-tissue fillers, are treatments designed to restore your skin’s youthful appearance. However, before undergoing this treatment, you should know a few things regarding aftercare to ensure you get the best results. That’s why here at SkinProvement Dermatology New York, Dr. Stephen Comite and his skilled team help you navigate the path to radiant, youthful-looking skin using dermal fillers.
What are Dermal Fillers Used for?
Many think dermal fillers are treatments only used on a person’s face. However, it can be used to treat and enhance different parts of the body effectively. Here are a few examples of what dermal fillers can do:
- Remove fine lines
- Restore hollow areas underneath the eyes, fullness to your cheeks, and deep creases
- Renew the contour of your temples
- Lift your downturn mouth or brow
- Plump lips
- Reduce the appearance of scars
- Rejuvenate and renew hands
Potential Side Effects
Some patients may experience temporary, minor side effects at the injection site. These side effects can include:
- Swelling
- Redness
- Bruising (occasionally)
- Tenderness
We also advise that patients not take elective aspirin for 10 days before the procedure. You may safely take medicines such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) to treat headaches. If your internist has you on a daily aspirin regimen, do not stop taking your medication. However, you may experience more bruising than usual.
Do not schedule dental work or dental cleaning for 2 weeks before and after the procedure.
The good news is that these minor side effects clear up within days—if not sooner.
More severe side effects have been linked to persons who inject filler without the proper experience and medical training. For your safety, you should never receive filler injections in non-medical facilities such as salons, non-medical spas, or anywhere other than a doctor’s office. If you do have increasing discomfort, discoloration in the areas that are treated, or any other concerns you feel to be serious, please call our office immediately. There are rare side effects that can be treated if found early. You should never receive treatments from anyone without the proper medical training and accreditations to deliver these injections safely.
A few known side effects people experience when receiving injections in a non-medical setting can include:
- Ridges
- Lumps
- Allergic reactions
- Over-filled locations
- Infection
- Skin discoloration
